Game Server Planning Guide

How to choose a game-server plan

The right plan depends on the game and workload—not only the maximum number of player slots.

Five questions to answer first

  1. Which game and version? Dedicated-server requirements vary widely.
  2. How many people play simultaneously? Use active players, not the full community size.
  3. Is the world new or established? Mature worlds may use more storage and resources.
  4. Will you use mods or plugins? Some configurations require substantially more memory and CPU.
  5. Are you migrating? Existing world size and compatibility should be checked before payment.

Leave room for busy periods

Choose a plan that can handle normal peaks without constantly reaching its memory, CPU, or storage limits. The best plan is not necessarily the largest one—it is the smallest plan that comfortably supports the real workload.

When to consider a larger plan

  • The game has high baseline memory requirements.
  • Your established world is large or highly active.
  • You use a substantial modpack or many plugins.
  • You expect frequent simultaneous players.
  • Monitoring shows the current resource limit is regularly reached.
